giving back to life

I am an altruist! I love the fuzzy, warm feeling that I experience when I am helping others, whether it be volunteering for community or environmental projects. In my field of work, there are no shortage of opportunities where I can put this into action.

CHILDREN

Children are my favourite people in the world. I have devoted great deal of my time to make sure I can serve them as a source of inspiration, a guide or simply by bringing a smile to their faces. I have conducted art workshops, organised and run face-painting at local events, and given art talks at various schools in London.

NUMBER SIX

Before its demolition and future development, Lambeth Council agreed with Brixton Green to use the former kitchen site at number 6 Somerleyton Road, as a community hub. I was part of the team that volunteered to project-manage its development. To date, Number Six has brought hundreds of people together,  including Block Workout, Brixton Come Together, Brixton Yoga, Royal Academy of Arts, English National Opera  and various radio stations,  to name a few.

ACTION SPACE

For a few years up until the last weeks of my pregnancy, I had the enormous pleasure of working as an artist facilitator at Action Space, an independent charity that supports the development of artists with learning disabilities and creates innovative projects to help them to engage with the visual arts. The inspiration I got from these talented artists went far, far beyond my expectations.

BRIXTON COME TOGETHER

Brixton Come Together is an independent annual Festival organised by Maria Santos and held in Brixton, South London, and now in its seventh year. It aims to promote and support the local community through the arts, offering the public a variety of free events, such as music, dance and yoga workshops,  theatrical performances, lectures, etc. BCT has attracted over 5,000 visitors during one  weekend and has featured both local and internationally acclaimed performers, including Manu Chao , La Troba Kung Fu, Prince Fatty and Hollie Cook. Taking part in this fantastic event, has given me the opportunity to raise awareness of environmental and social issues within the community through various art mediums without limits and also to meet and network with an incredible bunch of inspirational people.
